San Vicente, Palawan – Mayor Amy Roa Alvarez warmly welcomed NNC-MIMAROPA Information Management Officer (IMO) Ms. Xylene B. Notario, RND, and Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Ms. Rachel T. Paladan, RND during a courtesy call earlier today, March 14, 2022.

The National Nutrition Council (NNC), Provincial Municipal Action Office together with the local Municipal Nutrition Action Office headed by MNAO Mr. Rodrigo Cipriano Jr. are set to conduct the following activity related to Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) programs in response to Typhoon Odette:

  1. Continuous Feeding Program
  2. Mother’s Classes
  3. Micronutrient Supplementation
  4. Proper hand washing techniques
  5. Monitoring of nutritional status of malnourished children
  6. Sanitation Awareness
  7. Basic Oral Health care

The goal of the NiE program is to prevent deaths and protect peoples’ right to nutrition in disaster-stricken areas. It is presumed that when disaster strikes, people who are already malnourished before the emergency are more vulnerable to illness and death. The communities affected by the typhoon Odette are at risk of malnutrition because of inadequate food and water supplies, poor sanitation, and lack of access to health services.

Coral Bay Nickel Corporation sponsored a feeding activity intended for pre-school malnourished children of Bgy. Caruray, this municipality.
